  • Thanks to all for the collective effort this past month – it is easier than trying to go it alone.

  • Between one kid’s soccer tournament in Williamsburg and having to come back in the middle for a funeral, eating well this weekend is going to be a real challenge, but I’m planning to stick with a lot of the challenge this summer.

I dislike everything about Bikram – tried it quite a few years ago a few times when I was living in DC and the male instructor was a total jerk, it was way too hot, and the poses are always the same and not ones I like. The stories about Bikram himself are disturbing!

  • I really like the sequences at Core Power yoga but can’t adjust to the heat. Yesterday’s class was 100 degrees and I just wanted it to be over. I think I may have to take that place out of my rotation until next winter when they can’t get it as hot.

    • I’ll bet it’s great in the winter! I just finished the 30 for 30 podcast about Bikram. Pretty crazy!

I struggle with meditation but I’m finding if I sit in this one swing/chair we have on our porch, it’s easier – maybe b/c of the rocking motion.

I’m with you – you can always put on more clothes, but when you’re hot, you’re hot.

We had a ten minute mediation at the end of a flow practice at Ease Yoga this morning – perfect timing.

A good friend’s mom just died so I brought sweetgreen salads for her family last night. Those balanced out to many plates of cookies being delivered.

After one day of chia pudding, I decided it’s not for me either. Weird texture and not at all like fluffy tapioca pudding I was hoping it would be like. Such a weird texture and those seeds do get stuck everywhere. Bleech. Now I know.

I made chia pudding for the first time – just unsweetened coconut milk and chia seeds in a mason jar – super easy and great with raspberries.

    • I wish I liked chia but find it annoying when it gets stuck in my teeth 🙁

    • I like it and do fine with a little in my eggs in the mornings (I’m a dedicated flosser which helps with the seeds) but I think my stomach doesn’t like chia pudding. I’ve made it a couple of times and liked it but it hasn’t sat well with me.

Got a bit off track but this week I have successfully avoided all office treats, even the brownies someone brought in for my birthday. Luckily nothing sticks around long so my willpower does not have to last very long.

Had to take my free day yesterday after a bday/mother’s day dinner at Lupe Marino at The Wharf (snazzy) where the options were pizza, panini, or pasta. It was a fun, festive night though, and I only had one glass of wine, kale salad as an app and a very moderate amount of pizza.

Are those Mary’s crackers at Whole Foods “allowed” on the challenge? They are made with brown rice and super crunchy. I thought I saw someone recommend them but maybe I made that up. I don’t eat a ton of chips in general, but that crunch is something I miss.

    • Mary’s crackers are healthier than most. I’m not exactly sure of the ingredients but if they contain only whole grains and no added sugar these crackers are a good choice that you can count towards servings of whole grains just so you don’t eat the entire box!

Got up early to do the crossword puzzles and read the whole paper – bliss after rushing around every weekday morning. My mom’s coming over for mother’s day dinner and I’m making salmon with lemon herb marinade from the NY Times – it’s delicious. I guess I’ll have to leave out the brown sugar in the marinade. My mom has brought over dinner almost…[Read more]

Entering a birthday/mother’s day weekend of various celebrations – could be trouble on the eating front. I had not had coffee in a couple of weeks and then had an oat milk latte from Colombe next to my office – so delicious.

I worked a miracle on my office, recycling two big bins of files and piles. It was so liberating. I’m sure I’ll be much more productive now.

I agree – we were not allowed to be inside on a nice day growing up in McLean VA so I’m the same way w/ my kids now. But my SoCal born and raised husband has no problem watching sports inside on a gorgeous Saturday, even after a lot of years here.
